The response was overwhelming, as people came to epic fundraiser events and donated funds that created just enough money for a security deposit on a new space. On other days of the week, wear whatever makes you feel fun, fresh, funky and fabulous. We put a lot of love into our parties, and the energy of the night is incredible when everyone is committed to participating and getting creative with us. Get ready for an impressive setting with high ceilings, huge screens showing video entertainment, a backyard and probably the best bathrooms you’ll ever experience. Inspired by the encouragement and support of New York’s underground arts community, House of Yes continued and decided to seek a new home.

We have recycling bins located throughout the venue, including recycling containers for cigarettes in the courtyard. Sound systems and sewing machines became molten plastic and costumes and bedrooms turned to colorless ash. Although the rest of the residents made it out alive, they had lost not only their possessions but also their creative homes and art space.
Together we build intimate experiences, spectacular entertainment, killer parties and outrageous events anywhere and everywhere. The rooms were rented to artists, musicians, dancers and creatives who became family, collectively hosting dinner parties, movie screenings, yoga mornings and monthly dance parties. Every week, the House of Yes collective invited the extended community over for Make Fun Sewing Nights (Tuesdays) and Circus Skill Share nights (Wednesdays). Come and watch the best artistic producers, super talented circus acrobats, drag queens, strippers, sexy go-go dancers and the world’s best musical artists.

Honor the humans who work to make this all possible.

We have created this space as a temple of expression dedicated to connection, creativity and celebrating life. House of Yes was created in 2007 by Kae Burke and Anya Sapozhnikova, two best friends who just wanted to make art and have a good time. With lots of help and lots of love, the original idea of House of Yes have transformed into a reality beyond what anyone ever imagined. A stone’s throw from the Jefferson Street L train, on a nondescript block lined with Bushwick warehouses, is a turquoise building displaying the word “YES” in letters 10 feet tall. Venture through the doors and it’s immediately clear that this is not your average, soulless nightclub.

We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future. Culture Trip catches up with House of Yes co-founders Kae Burke and Anya Sapozhnikova to find out how they’ve created a space that represents inclusivity, collaboration and self-expression in that old New York way. The First House of Yes came to existence in April of 2007. A friend of a friend was looking for someone to take over their lease on a 2,500 square foot second floor loft located at Troutman Street.

Anything can be a costume if you have the right attitude and outlook.
The new House of Yes was double the size, which meant double the potential for creativity. It was a project built on passion with the intention of creating a more professional version of the first House of Yes. The newest incarnation would be home to Make Fun costume studio, a music studio an event space and an aerial circus school known as Sky Box with classes 6 days a week. Once again, people from far and wide would come to House of Yes to support by taking classes, seeing performances, coming to events or volunteering their time to be with like minded creatives.
